New Police Story
After sending the Ooi kids back, we didn't know what to do next so we decided to watch a movie. So we went to buy tickets to "New Police Story". I thought it was a crap show or about the same plot as what Jackie Chan did in his past few "Police Story" series.
After walking out of the cinema, I actually picked up a few lessons in this movie! For those who intend to watch "New Police Story", dun read any further. Come back again after you watched it. For those who doesn't, maybe you'll feel like watching it after reading this blog. So let's move on!
The story tells about this senior inspector Wing (Jackie Chan). He's a very capable guy who leads a select team of police officers in solving the toughest cases. Then this bunch of juvenile headed by Joe (Daniel Wu...he's cute!) broke into a bank safe and publicly challenged the police force to stop them. This gang is super smart and highly-skilled in ammunition. After learning about the robbery, Wing boasted that he will apprehend this gang within 3 hrs.
So Wing led his team to their hidding place. To his horror, he saw his team mates were killed one by one. Though he escaped, his confidence was severely shaken. He lived in guilt and shame, eventually turned to alcohol for comfort. And because one of his team mates who died was his gf's bro, fearing that she will not forgive him, he avoided her.
To cut the story short, this mysterious guy Fung (Nicholas Tse) led Wing back to the police force and help him to build up his confidence. Later on, Wing's close friend, Sam, revealed to him that it was him (Sam) who leaked out the information about the ambush to the gang. Sam caused the downfall of the team. And all along, his gf didn't blame him for the death of her bro. Wing's confidence was restored. You can see how truth set you free.
Back to the gang...actually they all come from rich families. Money to them is not important. It's the fun and thrill. For Joe, he hates police. Why? Becos his dad is a high-ranking police officer. And not only that, his dad is abusive...from young...Joe was hand-cuffed and beaten by his dad as a punishment. Calling Joe "useless", "rubbish" etc. So Joe becomes a robber to rebel against his dad. But the root problem is not becos his dad is a policeman but becos his dad is abusive. You can see how past traumas and bad experiences can hold you back from becoming what God wants you to be.
Like what uncle Andrew said...most of the times we have to suffer becos of somebody's problems. But we have a free choice to choose how we should response/react. Bitterness and hatred or forgiveness and love?
The ending...well Joe died. This mysterious guy, Fung turned out to be the orphan whom Wing saved a decade ago. Haha...sowing and reaping?? Hmmm....
