White wall & black dots
"Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself." -Phil 2:3
I was chatting with uncle Paul on our way home in a cab. We were talking about his sermon yesterday. Talked about how David ranted and raved at God in the book of Psalms, but in the end he still came to his sense and starting praising God. Then for some odd reasons, I came up with this verse Phil 2:3. In another word for this verse is to humble ourselves. Uncle Paul told me it's human nature to find faults in others but never themselves. It's like a white wall with black dots on it...man will definitely focus on the black dots rather than the white wall. Maybe you did 9 out of 10 things right but man usually will remember that 1 thing you've done wrong.
We all should look out for the strength of others and make good use of their strength esp in area of work.
"God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble." -James 4:6
Too often we think too highly of ourselves (esp for myself) and put others down because of their flaws. Just like the metaphor of the white wall and black dots, we are too focus on the black dots. Uncle Paul told me that if you are proud, you'll be pressed down- not by devil but by God. What a sobering thought!
