Grieving at Christmas...

The day after Christmas. For many of us in Singapore maybe still partying, having fun, eating or relaxing at home. But for thousands in Indonesia, Maldives, Thailand, India and Malaysia, Dec 26th brought terror, devastation and death as killer waves caused by a magnitude of 9.0 quake, crashed in around them. It's at Christmas when our failures and our losses seem most poignant.

One of the toughest losses to overcome during the Christmas season is death of a loved one. It seems so unfair-so heart wrenching-that at the time of year set aside for celebrating we must endure the incredible loss of one we hold dear. The most tragic element of the calamity was that the majority of the victims were children, women, the aged and the infirm who couldn't escape the ravaging waves. Those who did escape a watery-grave lost their homes and all their belongings and are literally on the streets, homeless and penniless. The fear of an outbreak of an epidemic is also looming large with numerous rotting human and animal carcasses lying everywhere.

But it's heart-warming to know that many countries around the world are doing something to help the Tsunami victims.

I pray that God opens the hearts of those who suffer, that as our fellow believers demonstrate God's love to them, many of them will come to know for the first time that real security comes only through Him. These millions of victims will feel God's presence and grace in a special way. And the volunteers will be given strength to serve in these horribly difficult circumstances. Amen.

I can't help it but this incident reminds me of this verse:

"And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man..." - Luke 17:26

And the days of the Son of Man = end time.

Hmmm....
